Who is an ideal candidate for the program?

An ideal candidate will have a passion for the sports industry, both as an athlete and as a potential future employment pathway. The program will embrace a diverse range of individuals including a mix of male and female students from various sports and backgrounds. Students will have completed their secondary education.

How do I apply for the program?

Students interested in the program should firstly fill out their personal details on the expression of interest form and book themselves into one of the upcoming Open Days held in Mildura. Following your attendance at this session, an online application will be submitted and then an interview with our staff will take place. We will also be requesting students supply a reference from a coach, teacher or mentor that they have worked with previously. Successful students will then be offered a position within the program with formal enrolment following this.

I am thinking of attending University in 2020 but I am not sure if I will get into the degree I am hoping for. Should I wait until after University offers come out to apply for this program?

As limited positions are available for this program it is unlikely there will be positions available after University placements are offered (January 2020). We therefore recommend that you apply for our program first. If you decide to take up a University offer you will be able to decline your position in our program, with no charge, prior to the course commencing in February 2020. With Swinburne University offering guaranteed places with up to a year’s credit for courses in areas including Business, Exercise and Sport Science, Health Science and Education following the successful completion of our program, this may also be an ideal way to secure your desired education pathway.

When does the program take place?

The 2020 program will run from February through until November. The yearly schedule will be similar to a secondary school schedule with end of term holidays provided in April, June and September. There will also be a compulsory Enrolment Day in November 2019.

What will my weekly schedule look like?

The weekly schedule will include two face-to-face days per week and include a range of sessions, including classroom learning, practical strength and conditioning and sports skills sessions.

What additional certifications are included in the program?

Throughout the year, students will also have the opportunity to complete First Aid, ASCA Strength & Conditioning, Mental Health First Aid, ASADA Level 1 & 2, Sport Australia Coaching, Level 1 AFL, Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and Pool Lifeguard.

How will I complete my practical hours?

All students are required to complete a minimum of 140 hours practical work placement.  Our program has a strong focus on experiential learning, allowing students to develop their skills in a range of environments and exciting events that occur both within the Richmond Football Club and also within our fully owned subsidiary, Aligned Leisure. With unrivalled access our Sports Industry Network and a range of industry experts, students will be exposed to outstanding opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge throughout the program.

What practical experiences will I have at the have access to?

In 2020, students will have the opportunity to work in a variety of roles at the aquatic and recreation centres in Mildura. These include customer experience, school programs and sporting club clinics. A number of other employment opportunities within the Mildura aquatic facilities will also be available following completion of accredited training such as Pool Lifeguard and Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (included in the program).

What interaction will I have with the other campuses?

In 2020, students will visit Melbourne on a number of occasions to participate in both classroom-based and physical activity sessions delivered by our Melbourne staff. Students will visit Richmond Football Club, Swinburne University and attend a Richmond FC game. Students will have the opportunity to connect and network with our Melbourne and Albury Wodonga students and staff through online platforms, on national and international trips and through a variety of placement opportunities.
